Minor Adaptations
Sometimes minor adaptations are required in order to increase your child’s access/ independence in activities around the home.
Minor Adaptations may include:
> Grab rails
> Bannister rails
> Ramps
In order for a minor adaptation to be considered consent needs to be obtained from the property landowner.
> House Owners – If you own your own property you can arrange for the work to be completed privately. Alternatively, this may be provided following an occupational therapy assessment if it is addressing the functional difficulties highlighted in the referral to our service.
> Private Rental – Following consent obtained from your landlord they may wish to complete the work themselves. Alternatively, this may be provided following an occupational therapy assessment if it is addressing the functional difficulties highlighted in the referral to our service.
> Social Housing – Tenants are able to request minor adaptations themselves to their social housing officer. Alternatively, following an occupational therapy (OT) assessment, the OT can request that this work is completed by social housing.
Lending Equipment
Sometimes specialist furniture or equipment is needed to manage every day activities. This is provided via an occupational therapist assessment/ recommendation and is on loan to an individual for as long as it’s needed and are living in the county. If something is designed to “grow” with a child, or is likely to need replacement for growth, it important that they are re-referred to the OT service when you notice that the equipment may not be appropriate anymore.
Specialist equipment that may be provided are:
> Bathing chairs
> Seating
> Shower chairs
> Toileting aids
> Slings
> Profiling beds
We do not provide wheelchairs, however, OT’s can make a referral to the wheelchair service if it is required.
