Children and Family Health Devon pathways of care launch events

This autumn, Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) will be hosting two events that aim to launch our new pathways of care and give you the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about what CFHD do, who we are and how we can help. The first of these will be a drop in event, hosted at our Tiverton site, Oaklands Court.

This event is an informal and relaxed event that aims to give those in attendance the opportunity to drop in and speak to us about the new pathways of care and what we offer children and young people as well as their families across Devon and Torbay.

As well as a face to face drop in event, we are also hosting an online launch and Q&A session for those who wish to learn more virtually. This session will be recorded and posted on our website after the event.

To give you further information about our pathways, please see below a short explanation:

If you have any questions ahead of either of these events, please email cfhd.communications@nhs.net and we will add them to our website below.

What are CFHD’s pathways of care?

Pathways of care are CFHD’s names for the services we provide.

After we’ve received a referral, our experts look at whether the child or young person needs specialist care from CFHD.

If they do, the child or young person and their family will receive care from one or more CFHD Pathways depending on their particular needs.

The CFHD pathways of care include the following:

  • Urgent Care
  • Speech, Language and Communication
  • Physical & Sensory
  • Children’s Community Nursing
  • Neurodiversity
  • Business Support & Single Point of Access
  • Early Child Development
  • Specialist Learning Disability
  • Addressing adverse childhood experiences
  • Mental Health Support Team
  • Mood, Emotions & Relationships
  • Eating Disorder

How can I find out more about the individual pathways?

All of our pathways are listed on our website and you can read more about each one here:

Our Pathways – Children and Family Health Devon

Will there be other opportunities to find out more about CFHD’s pathways?

Yes, we have a virtual event on 6 November which will be recorded and future events will be planned as we continue to roll out the new pathways of care for CFHD.

Will these pathways replace CAMHS?

Devon CAMHS has recently undergone service transformation leading to the development of six new pathways. These pathways cover:

  • Mood and relational difficulties
  • Crisis or risk presentations
  • Eating Disorders
  • Neurodiversity
  • Learning disability
  • Children in care

Our Pathways of care are delivered in areas across the South West including, North Devon, Exeter and East Devon and Torbay and South Devon.

What difference will I see when these pathways are rolled out?

We launched our new referral form earlier this year which included the new pathway names (names for each service) and we are slowly starting to use these in our communication with you. If you have any questions at all about which pathway you are under, please don’t hesitate to contact our SPA team on:

I would love to be more involved with CFHD. Are there options for doing this?

We’d love your help! Children and Family Health Devon are looking for children, young people and parents/carers to share their ideas on how we can improve the service and to work with us to make those changes.

As a young advisor or parent/carer advisor you can also volunteer to help with all sorts of things including:

  • interviewing candidates for jobs in CFHD
  • planning and delivering training to staff
  • joining our equality champions group to help promote and support equality, diversity and inclusion in CFHD
  • helping to write letters, leaflets and other information to make sure it is young person and family friendly….
  • …and lots of other projects – big and small – that help us to improve CFHD.

There’s never any pressure to take part, we are grateful for any contribution you make and you can do as little or as much as you like – whatever suits you.

If this sounds interesting or even exciting, get in touch: cfhd.participation@nhs.net

Will I need to be put on another waiting list for these new pathways?

No, the names of our services have changed but you will not need to be added to a new waiting list.

Will I be able to get information on waiting times for these new pathways?

Yes, we are working with our teams internally to provide up to date information on our waiting times. This will be hosted on our website as soon as we can.
