Neurodiversity
Neurodiversity means that brains naturally have differences and that’s ok. These differences should be respected and celebrated. Just like there’s no “normal” or “right” way to be a certain gender, race, or part of a culture, there’s no one “normal” way for brains to develop. It’s about understanding and appreciating the diverse ways people’s brains work.
These differences can include:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Dyspraxia
- Dyslexia
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), where the young person has co-occurring mental health needs
- Dyscalculia
- Tics and Tourette’s Syndrome, where the young person has co-occurring mental health needs

Private provider assessments
We understand how difficult it can be to wait for an autism assessment, and we want to reassure families that reducing waiting times is a priority. The information below outlines the actions we are taking across the system to increase capacity, work collaboratively with partners, and ensure children are assessed as quickly and fairly as possible.
