About John Parkes Unit

The John Parkes Unit features disabled access and five clinical rooms. It houses Audiology, Occupational Therapy, and Speech and Language Therapy rooms, plus a kitchen, nursery, reception, and patient waiting area with separate toilets for children and adults.

How to get into the building?

Follow signs for the John Parkes Unit. Visitors use automatic doors to reception and must sign in.

Parking information

No on-street parking is available, but there are about 15 paid visitor spaces, including 3 disabled spaces. Visitor permits are not provided; paid parking is required.

Travel Options

From Exeter/Newton Abbot/Paignton: Take the A380 towards Torquay. At the “English Riviera” dual carriageway, turn into the right-hand filter lane (hospital signposted). Continue into Old Newton Road at the traffic lights. Turn left at the mini-roundabout, and John Parkes Unit will be on your right.

From Torquay: Take Newton Road towards Exeter. At the third set of traffic lights past Torre Station, turn left onto Old Newton Road. Turn left at the mini-roundabout, and John Parkes Unit is on your right. There is no secure bike storage, but there is space for bikes outside. Torre station is a 20-minute walk, and bus stops on Cadewell Lane (near Lidl) serve routes 12, 13, 53, and 149, with additional routes to Torbay Hospital. Other bus routes to the Torbay Hospital include:

What to do about lunch

John Parkes Unit is a 10-minute walk to Torbay Hospital’s Bayview catering facilities. Alternatively, it’s a few minutes’ walk to Lidl and the Greene King restaurant, the Old Engine House.
