World Patient Safety Day 2025
World Patient Safety Day 2025: Safe care for every newborn and every child.
Conversations about medicine improves safety:
Become an expert in your medicines today!
Medicine can be a valuable part of care to help support recovery and make us feel better. This is often prescribed, but might also be a medicine, supplement or herbal remedy you buy yourself (or for your child).
Following the directions on how to take your medicine correctly is important to avoid harm and always be curious:
- What medicines do I take?
- What are they for and how will I know if they are helping?
- Do I know how to take them safely (how often and how much)?
- Do I need support to store and take my medicines safely (at home or at school/ college)?
- Do I know what side effects they may cause and what to do if this happens?
If you don’t know all the answers, have more questions or just want to get more advice…..
PLEASE ASK! There are NEVER any silly questions.
You can ask your pharmacist, the prescriber (GP, consultant or non-medical prescriber), other healthcare professionals who support you or specialist medicine information helplines (see the CFHD webpage for resources about medicines).
Make sure you understand the information given to you. Don’t be afraid to ask the person to repeat information or explain it in a different way.
Ask for information in a format you can understand.
Remember, the internet has lots of useful information and support, but also contains lots of incorrect or misleading information and advice too.
Visit sites that have been recommended by professionals. If you are worried about anything you have read, or want to check any advice, just ask.
