Trigger warning, mention of suicide and suicidal thoughts

Ahead of World Mental Health Day (10 October 2026) we hear from Sage, one of CFHD’s Experts by Experience. Sage has made a short film that talks about mental health struggles and finding reasons to stay.

Trigger warning, mention of suicide and suicidal thoughts

Why did you make this film?

“I made this because I think sometimes we forget that finding a reason to stay alive doesn’t always have to mean having everything figured out.

There have been times in my life when I’ve had to take things one day at a time. Sometimes one hour at a time. And I’ve learned that it’s often the smallest things that give you a reason to keep going.

Going on a coffee date with my friends. Watching a film with my family. Going for a swim in the sea. Sitting in the comfort of my room trying a new craft activity.

They might not seem like significant moments, but when you’re struggling to find a reason to stay, those small moments where you feel a little less hopeless and a little more like yourself can give you the strength to carry on.

At the end of the day, a life is made up of these little moments: the ones you might not think much of at the time, but look back on with so much love.

That’s why I wanted to make this, to remind you that there is still so much life in the little things.

Sending so much love to all of you who are struggling right now. I hope you find little moments that make staying feel a little easier, and remind you why you’re glad you did.”
