Do You See Me? Found poetry to celebrate Learning Disability Week
The Specialist Learning Disability Team created a piece of found poetry to celebrate Learning Disability Week 2026. A found poem brings together words from a piece of text to create something new like a collage, using words. We used “Valuing People” as our inspiration, reflecting the importance of rights, inclusion, independence and choice. The words in this poem come from colleagues across the team, forming a shared voice that connects to this year’s theme ‘Do You See Me?’
Do You See Me?
A found poem for Learning Disability Week 2026
By the Children’s Learning Disability Team
We are the Learning Disability Team,
a family, as a whole—
a jigsaw of services
working closely together,
forming relationships that grow
with care,
with purpose.
We stand for consistency and equity,
for choice,
for advocacy,
for challenging discrimination
and raising standards.
We build and thrive together,
with appropriate support,
to improve access
and build social inclusion.
Do you see me?
all of me?
not just the label?
Do you see the child,
too often overlooked,
yet developing skills,
achieving,
aspiring?
Do you see the effort,
the strength in trying,
the joy in small steps becoming something big-
a fulfilling, productive life,
built with creativity and care?
Because every voice
is a valued and welcome contribution,
every person
an important part
of this whole.
We are committed.
We are specialist.
We are here, alongside.
We do see you.
