Referral Criteria – Voice
Voice disorders are medical conditions which involve abnormal pitch, loudness or quality of the sound produced by the larynx which affects speech production, e.g. husky voice, high pitch voice.
Speech and Language Therapists provide support and assistance to children and young people who are experiencing voice difficulties.
Referrals will be only considered for children and young people presenting with voice difficulties who have been seen by ENT.
Exclusion criteria
SLT do not provide a service to children and young people who present:
- As reluctant talkers – (elective and selective Mutism)
- With dyslexia
- With listening and attention difficulties in the absence of speech or language difficulties
- With difficulties in English when this is an additional language but they have no difficulties acquiring their first language
- Acquired brain injury
- Speech difficulties but without Speech Link results or evidence that the child or young person accessed website toolkit and implemented strategies (for three months or other agreed time)
- Language difficulties without Language Link results or evidence that the child or young person accessed website toolkit and implemented strategies (for three months or other agreed time)
